Ah, Cedar Point… America’s Roller Coast!

 

I don’t think much else can come close to the perfect place for a coaster lover… Cedar Point, an amusement park located in Sandusky, Ohio, has been known as one of the roller coaster capitols of the country for over 150 years. Yes… you read that correctly! This park opened back in 1870, making it the second-oldest operating amusement park in the U.S., right after Lake Compounce in Connecticut.

 

Not only has this place been around for a long time, but it is gigantic. I’m talking 16 roller coasters, a water park, resorts… Cedar Point easily falls on the bucket list of any theme park junkie. It’s been on mine for nearly my whole life, so I was absolutely ecstatic to get to finally make that trip happen!

Where I’m from in the Mid-South, Cedar Point has always been known as the amusement park to road trip to and spend a few days. I already knew that I was in for a treat, as I frequent its sister park, Kings Island, every year and has become one of my favorites.

 

Whether its your first time here, or maybe it’s been a while, here is a guide to what to see, do and explore for when you visit Cedar Point!

If you’re not familiar with Cedar Point, here’s a little intro…

This may be one of the biggest amusement parks in the Midwest. I’m talking 16 rollercoasters, 16 non-coaster thrill rides, hotels, the beach…you name it, they’ve got it. Aside from it being so huge, it has such a beautiful setting! This park is actually a peninsula that sits on lake Erie, so you’ll see bodies of water no matter which direction you turn.

Cedar Point is the ‘grand daddy’ amusement park in the Cedar Fair lineup – So if you’re familiar with King’s Island, Knott’s Berry Farm or Carowinds, you now know that they are all in the same family!

 

This park has also received several awards, including ‘Best Amusement Park in the World,’ as well as hit some groundbreaking milestones – having 5 coasters over 200 feet to name one!

 

So, yeah. This place is pretty amazing, and is much more than your average park.

So… Let’s talk about coasters!

As you would imagine, an amusement park with 16 roller coasters is bound to have a fantastic variety of them; Suspended leg, corkscrew, wooden, hybrid, winged… They’ve got it all!

Another obvious fact is that with all of these coasters, don’t expect to be able to do them all in a day, or at least without Fast Lane/Fast Lane Plus. With us only having one day here on a holiday weekend, I was willing to splurge a little, and was so glad we did! I would highly recommend getting it if you’ve got a short time frame. But if you don’t, you can still have a great time! I personally felt that with this being such a big park, it was spread out enough so everyone wasn’t on top of each other trying to race to the same line.

 

My personal favorites were Gatekeeper, Gemini and Rougarou. I have to admit though, I came in ambitious to do it all, but got about halfway until I was pooped!

Okay, so we talked about what’s inside the park. What about outside?

Coasters may be one of the main attractions here, but it is certainly not the only one! I was pretty impressed with the area as a whole, as it is pretty developed with outside attractions and Cedar Point hotels. Speaking of hotels… there are 6 owned by Cedar Point, ranging from express options to their fancy Hotel Breakers right on the beach!

If you need a break from all the thrills, there’s plenty more to do nearby. You can spend time on the beach, play golf, take a boardwalk cruise, or even hop over to the water park, Cedar Point Shores! Needless to say, it’s pretty impossible to get bored here.
